Baby room

The baby room is finished (for now)!! I wanted to create a simple, clean-lined modern look to the room using original mid-century modern furniture where I could. The rocking chair was an Ebay find and the most expensive item in the room. The crib is the Ikea Gulliver crib in white.

I came up with the idea for the owl mobile from some really cute hair clips I saw on Etsy. I replicated them using different colored felt and embroidery thread. They hang from a piece of driftwood we picked up while kayaking in the ocean near Gualala on our 5th anniversary. Little did we know that we'd be using it for a baby room over a year later.

I fell in love with this crib bumper called Charlotte from Dwell Studio. However, I didn't like the blanket, sheet and crib skirt that came with it (nor the $425 price tag). With a stroke of luck I was able to find the new bumper sold separately on Ebay! It's linen and matches perfectly with Ecru or white sheets. The beautiful quilt in the picture was a surprise and handmade by my good friend Amy. She does such an awesome job and picked out the perfect fabric to match the bumper.

Both the dresser and the VW bug rocking chair were great Craigslist finds. I liked the length and height of the dresser, it's perfect to use as a changing table.

Believe it or not, these are the same closet doors that were originally in the room. Gerhard just removed the louvers and replaced them with plywood. The holes for the door handles were filled and the doors were sanded and painted. We then attached cabinet pulls for a sleeker look.

A basic Home Depot closet organizer was installed in the closet. We also attached hooks and a towel rack to the back of the closet doors for storage of bulkier items like snowsuits, portable high chairs and blankets.

There are still a few things I'd like to finish in the room. One of which is a poster or some kind of wall hanging for the blank wall between the window and the closet doors. Perhaps her name spelled out (when we know what that is). Also I'd like to make a Moroccan pouf to use as a footstool for the rocking chair. For now I'm using a step stool that I made in high school wood shop that doesn't go very well. Eventually we'll need some kind of toy storage that would fit nicely under the window by the rocking chair.
