Who would have thought that we'd end up being the proud owners of a 1954-ish Flying Cloud Airstream come 2010!!? Not us! We have a dream of owning our own little Airstream to take on family camping trips and vacations now that we are a family of 3 (and 2 pups). We figured our dream would be a few years down the road AND that we would have to forgo the Airstream for a more affordable option. Enter Craigslist. Have I mentioned before that I LOVE Craigslist?!?
We found 'the deal'. Last night we ventured out into the cold and dark in the middle of nowhere to check out a little Airstream without so much as a picture to go by. When we got there, SCORE! We left a deposit and returned today to pick it up (thanks to Dad and his Diesel!)
It's a fixer and needs a lot of work, but that's the best part. We can fix it up over time to how we want it to be. It's structurally sound and has most of the original interior woodwork. It even has a toilet in the cupboard! It comes with it's own wasp and rat nests (free of charge). And did I mention it smells like cat pee?
The first goal is to just clean it up and get all the yucky stuff out. Once we accomplish that we need to paint the interior and assess if the plywood flooring is sound enough to lay vinyl floor tiles. Lots of work, but that's OK because we aren't in any hurry :)
Doesn't it look like some sort of German WWII tank?!
